The Bihar Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) is a state-level eligibility exam conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB). Clearing it certifies candidates to teach secondary (classes 9–10) and senior secondary (classes 11–12) in government and government-aided schools across Bihar. 

Exam Structure & Pattern

Bihar STET comprises two separate papers:

• Paper I – For teaching secondary level (classes 9–10)

• Paper II – For teaching senior secondary level (classes 11–12)
  Each paper contains 150 MCQs, worth 150 marks, with a duration of 2½ hours. There is no negative marking, and each question carries +1 mark.

Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualifications:

  • Paper I: Bachelor's degree (relevant subject) + B.Ed.

  • Paper II: Postgraduate degree (relevant subject) + B.Ed.
    The B.Ed. is mandatory in both cases.Age Limit:

• • Unreserved Men: up to 37 years

  • Unreserved Women & OBC: up to 40 years

  • SC/ST: up to 42 years

  • Additional relaxations for PwD (up to +10 years) and Ex-Servicemen (+3 years) apply.

• Application Process: Online registration, form with personal/academic details, document uploads, and fee payment. 

Why It Matters

• TRE-4 Recruitment Delay: Aspirants for the BPSC Teacher Recruitment Exam (TRE‑4) are advocating for STET to be conducted ASAP—without it, many B.Ed./BTC graduates (2022–25) could be deemed ineligible. Protests have erupted across Patna, with clash incidents and even political interventions. 

• Local Preference Policies: New state rules reserve teaching positions heavily favoring Bihar residents—requiring domicile and proof of having studied Class 10/12 in Bihar. While ~84.4% of teaching posts are now reserved for locals, only 15.6% remain for others.
