EMRS stands for Eklavya Model Residential School, a government initiative in India to provide quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children in remote areas. The program is managed by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and was established in 1997–1998. The government has aimed to establish an EMRS in every block with more than 50% ST population by 2022. The target was later set to establish 740 schools across the country by 2025. EMRS are fully residential, with separate hostels for boys and girls, mess facilities, accommodation for staff, and playgrounds.NESTS conducts the EMRS Staff Selection Exam (ESSE) to recruit qualified teaching and non-teaching staff, such as Principals, Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), and Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs).
